Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo Missions to the Moon
Recreated in 3D inside solid crystal, the

of astronaut James B. Irwin saluting the flag at the Apollo 15 landing site. He is standing near the Lunar Module Falcon, and in the distance, the mountain Hadley Delta

.
The stunning detail of the diorama is evident in the American flag. This art was originally commissioned by the

Kansas City, Kansas
. The
Explorers Stanchion

The Apoll
o Missions to the Moon
1968-1972
In Honor of the 40th Anniversary of the
First Human Footprints on Another World
Apollo 11, July 20th, 1969
The 3D scene depicts the historic image taken on August 1, 1971 during the Apollo 15 mission. The image is included in this crystal sculpture's "More Photos" section above. Astronaut James Irwin salutes the flag with Lunar Module Falcon in the background at the Hadley-Apennine landing site. The lunar rover is to the right. The mountain in the background is Hadley Delta, 3 miles (5 km) from the landing site. Hadley Delta's summit rises to 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) above the lunar surface. The historic photo was taken by Astronaut David Scott. We felt the scene beautifully captured the achievements of the Apollo missions to the Moon, 1968-72.
